New additions to our fruit and veg boxes
After what seemed a very long and dark winter, (trust us, we know manning the market stalls throughout all of it!) spring’s warmer weather and longer days are a real boost!
The flowers are starting to bloom, the trees are beginning to bud, and a whole new crop of different fruit and veg is coming available from our local producers. These are already appearing on our market stalls within Salisbury, Chippenham and Devizes and within our fruit and veg boxes for home deliveries.
New Potatoes
This very week we have the new season of new potatoes, grown in the rich soil of Bromham Farm, our local-Wiltshire provider of much of our vegetables. New potatoes are an incredibly versatile vegetable. Just three ways you can use them are:
Roasted:
Cut the new potatoes into small pieces and toss them with olive oil, salt, and pepper. Roast them in the oven until they are crispy on the outside and tender on the inside.
Boiled:
Boil the new potatoes until they are tender. Serve them as a side dish with butter and herbs or use them in a potato salad.
Blended and made into a soup:
Boil the new potatoes until they are soft. Then blend them with chicken or vegetable broth and seasoning to make a creamy potato soup.
Asaparagus
We’ve also got New Forest asparagus. Prized for its unique taste, its delicate texture and nutritional benefits, the spears are harvested daily for maximum freshness.
Asparagus can be cooked in a variety of ways, including steaming, roasting, grilling, or sautéing. It can be enjoyed as a side dish, in salads, or as part of a main dish.
Our recommendation is to serve our asparagus with hollandaise sauce, butter or a vinaigrette dressing to contrast the lush flavour of the ‘lily vegetable’ (yes, it’s part of the lily family!)
